S.H.I.N.E. (Support, Help in Nourishing Everyone)

One of our first projects was around food provision. We called this project S.H.I.N.E. and we’ve expanded from making available emergency food parcels and hot meals to being in partnership with Carlisle Community Help, to bring Brampton’s first ever Affordable Food Hub. We continue to provide Emergency Food Parcels at the point of need.

We provide emergency food parcels seven days a week and hot meals events.  We have also partnered with Carlisle Community Help to set up Brampton’s Affordable Food Hub which enables families, going through difficult financial times, the ability to select their own food at a greatly reduced price, relieving the stress that financial hardship can bring.  S.H.I.N.E. also provides free fruit and vegetable vouchers with all of their food provision ensuring families do not lose out on good nutrition and can select the fruit and veg that suits them.

  • Food is donated

Schools, churches, businesses and individuals donate non-perishable, in-date food to us.  We also get donations from Marks & Spencer, Lidl and the Co-op.

  • Food is sorted, stored and available at our Community Larder every Friday morning.

Volunteers sort food to check that it’s in date and store it ready to be either given to people who are referred to us or available at our Community Larder.

  • People in need are identified

Our Helpdesk volunteers take referrals from professional bodies, neighbours and those that have the courage to call.  Our volunteers are compassionate and can give practical support or signpost them to help with any other crisis they may be facing.

  • People referred receive food

Our volunteers can arrange emergency food parcels, give advice on our Community Larder or assist in joining our Affordable Food Hub.
